Cheers with a Festive Glow

Do you really think that CD’s are only meant to be put into the computer or CD player? Far from it!

Materials:

  • CD
  • Napkin with a Christmassy motive
  • White sponge rubber disc, 1.5 cm diameter, 2mm thick
  • Colorless Marabou Deco Lacquer
  • White gewgaw, superfine, iridescent
  • Two-sided adhesive foil, 13 cm x 13 cm
  • Self-adhesive, transparent foil, 13 x 26 cm
  • Brush
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick

  1. Choose a napkin with a beautiful Christmassy motive for the design of a coaster. Cut out the designated motive roughly, obviously making sure it is no larger than the CD. Remove the topmost, thinly printed layer of the napkin and glue it with the bottom side to the two-sided adhesive foil.
  2. Cut out the picture exactly with a fine pair of scissors. No adhesive foil should extend past the motive. Now glue the perfectly trimmed napkin motive onto the shiny side of the CD.
  3. Turn the CD over so that the printed side is on top. Glue the little sponge rubber disc into the CD hole. Do not press too strongly against the front side in order not to damage the napkin motive.
  4. Brush the entire front side of the CD with a colorless lacquer, immediately sprinkling it with the glittering gewgaw. Let it all dry before continuing with the work.
  5. Divide the transparent adhesive foil into two halves, each being 13 x 13 cm. Glue a piece onto the bottom side of the CD, cutting off the overhanging bit. Repeat the process with the other half of the transparent foil on the topside of the CD.

Tip:
Keep the CD’s stored individually before and while working to keep them from getting scratched and also to keep them nice and shiny for the finished product. Use a little towel as a pad while working, so that the shiny side of the CD does not get any scratches.
